Welcome from Chair of Governors

On behalf of the Governors of Fairford Primary School, I would like to offer you a very warm welcome to our school.  In this section you will be able to find out more information about the school’s Governors and the work that we do.

My name is Clare Muir, and I am privileged to be the Chair of Governors for Fairford Primary School and to be working with such a professional and dedicated team of staff and governors. I have been a governor for the school since May 2021 and took over as chair in October 2021. My children were both pupils here, so I know the school well and have experienced at first-hand the happy, safe, caring environment, built on strong Christian values, which the school prioritises so highly and is rightly proud of.

As a governing board we have three core strategic functions which are: –

  • Ensuring the vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school is clear and understood.
  • Holding the School’s Leadership Team to account for the educational performance of the school and the children, and the performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure money is well spent for the benefit of the children.

To deliver these 3 functions, governors work closely with the Headteacher and staff to establish and refine policies. We focus on objectives within the School Development Plan and have a thorough evaluation schedule of performance data to ensure that the right objectives are set and monitored to ensure they are effective – all with an aim of getting the best outcomes for our children.

Our Governing Body is made up of 14 governors including the Headteacher. The governors represent the views of parents, church, staff and our wider community and have a wide range of backgrounds, knowledge and skills to call upon.  However, we could not do our job without the professional expertise and support of the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and the dedicated teaching and support staff at Fairford Primary School. We are very much a team at Fairford and are united by our collective commitment to delivering the best for our pupils, whether that be providing the optimal learning environment and atmosphere, ensuring their well-being, or delivering the highest standards of education and teaching.  Parents are a fundamental part of this team, and the school places great value on close co-operation between parents and staff to ensure that each and every child realises their potential.

If you see me, or other governors, at a school event, please come and say hello. Another way I can be contacted is via chair@fairford.gloucs.sch.uk.  It is a joy to work with the school; being a governor is a very rewarding experience and I would encourage anyone considering how they could further support the school to get in touch and to keep an eye out for parent governor elections.

We are rightly proud of our educational performance. Notwithstanding, the thing we prize most highly – and which is most often cited by parents as the quality they value most – is the caring, happy, family atmosphere, which provides the best environment to allow the children to thrive educationally and individually.

We wish your child every success and happiness at Fairford Church of England Primary School.
